This research is aimed to show the significance of the maritime straits in politics, economics and international conflicts. In that sense, the importance of geopolitics, geo-economics and the geostrategic of maritime straits generally, and the strait of Malacca, in particular, will be exhibited. That leads us to understand some of the International conflicts and it also can be an introductory gate to understand many of the States’ strategy and behavior.
The research consists of an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. In chapter One, First, there will be a conceptual definition for maritime straits from different perspectives. Next, the relationship between maritime straits and energy security will be investigated. Then, the significance of the two common maritime straits in the Middle East called the strait of Hormuz and Bab-el-Mandab will be explained. There will be also a quick shed of light on all those political and military conflicts that are taking place for creating hegemony over those to important maritime straits. Chapter Two will focus on the strait of Malacca. The cruciality of that strait in terms of geography, economics, and geopolitics will be clarified. Then the role and position of the strait of Malacca in regard to conflicts and relations between the U.S.A. and China will be elaborated.
